For my first "Stories by Racheal" blog post of the year, I would like to share the background behind my first completed story of the year 2016: The Rhythm of Life.
As anyone who knows me can tell you, I am a story-teller. Even if they don't know that I write stories, they know I tell 'em! Being a story-teller/writer has it's dangers, believe it or not. One of which is that you get inspiration at some of the most in-opportune times.
In the case of RoL, it happened during the second service in church yesterday, so you may blame Mr. Barnes for the very existence of this short, allegorical tale. He made a passing remark about how Christians do not go to the rhythm of the world...and I scribbled on my notes, "What if Christians are the ones who actually have the rhythm?" As soon as that came out of my pen, I had the inspiration for this story...and snatched the smaller notebook out of my purse and scribbled down the bare-bones idea. I was trying to keep one-ear on the sermon as well, but I probably missed a couple of sentences...
The opening verse actually came from my Bible reading this morning (by the way, the Prophets are filled with plot-inducing verses or phrases) and I thought it fit so nicely that I had to use it.
About the style: I do not usually write first person, present tense. It's kind of awkward really. Normally, if I write in first person, it's in past tense. Though in reality, I very seldom write in first person. I don't know exactly why I decided to go this direction with it...but I think it was mainly because I wanted the reader to feel himself there. (Even if I didn't consciously think that until just now...)
And now you know a little more about this maybe strange little story...
